The Kitsilano Figure Skating Club (KitsFSC), a member club of Skate Canada, is a non-profit society with club activities overseen by a group of volunteers which forms the Board of Directors. The Club operates in accordance with the Rules, Regulations and Policies of Skate Canada. The Club is located in the heart of the Kitsilano district of Vancouver, British Columbia. The Kitsilano Arena is part of the Kitsilano Community Centre Complex. The KitsFSC office is separate from the community centre rink office. Any Club business should be directed to KFSC office located between the concession and the skate rental area. There is a Club bulletin board outside of the office door where information is posted for Club members.
A Message from the Board of Directors
Welcome to the 2015-2016 skating season at Kitsilano Figure Skating Club! We, at KitsSFC, are proud to continue serving the community by enabling and encouraging life-long participation in skating for fun, fitness, and achievement. Our goal is to provide quality, affordable skating instruction to all club members in an environment that promotes personal achievement. KitsFSC offers a variety of programs that are suitable for all ages and abilities, from preschoolers stepping on the ice for the first time to adult skaters. These programs serve both recreational and competitive skaters. Our skating lessons are run by Skate Canada's NCCP certified coaches.
New Programs for the New Year! The Pre Star and Star Development Programs Will Replace The Junior Development Program in January 2016
We are very excited to announce that the Junior Development Program has been replaced by two new programs designed to bring Kitsilano FSC programming in line with current Skate Canada Star programming.
Pre Star Program: Skaters will be invited from CanSkate to advance to the Pre Star Program. In this program they will learn advanced CanSkate skills and be introduced to stroking, edgework, and turning, in a group environment. Off-ice classes are included in Pre Star. Skaters have the option to attend 1-4 times per week.
Star Development Program: Once completed CanSkate and an introduction to solid basics, Pre Star skaters will be invited to join the Star Development Program. Here they will begin work in the Skate Canada Star Program in a group environment, with a view to participating in their first Star One event at a local Skate Canada sanctioned competition. Star One Skills include stroking, spinning, jumping, spirals, and a one minute improvised routine skated to a pre chosen piece of music. Skaters will continue to develop the basics of stroking, edgework, and turning, and begin to focus more on spinning, jumping, and basic ice dancing steps. Off-ice classes are also included in Star Development. Skaters may choose 2-4 days per week. Minimum two day per week attendance is mandatory to participate in the Star Development Program.
